Why i+1 case was ignored in i = even case?

I couldn’t understand why i+1 cases was ignored in i=even case but was taken into account in i=odd case?

in case of even we are not taking i+1 becuase
from i we go to i+1 and becuase i+1 is odd we cant perform division so again we will have to take single step from i+1 to i or i+2

which makes this step costly
