Unable to understand a statement made in lecture

I am not able to understand that why and how the loss is considered as the negative of log-likelihood.

Log Likelihood is something we want to maximize, if we decide to use that than we have to apply gradient ascend on the other hand if we use negative log likelihood than our target is to minimize it and we have to apply gradient descend. You can deal any way.
