At 17:33 How did array change from a,b to a,c when we already put a null at the place if c. So in the next step it should be a,b rather than a,c. Please explain.

We have placed c on the index following a and everything else is null because its empty
Its not working like that exactl ,in each recursion call we have two choices either to take current element or leave the current element
So its like this
All recusive call goes to it base case and then only line after that call will be executed.
Here left call means we leave the element and right call means we take the element
