Shift operator use

I was watching a lecture on the use of operators but I did not understand the use of shift operator during that. Please elaborate what exactly is the use of it?

left shift by 1 is equivalent to multiplying number by 2.
right shift by 1 is equivalent to dividing number by 2.

we use them for bit manipulation. all its use cases are covered in bitmanipulation playlist of ur course
