Problem 7 maths quiz

Can you please help me out with this problem?

hello @himanshugupta8
In 1st bag—> Put 1 red ball

In 2nd bag—> Put the remaining 50 blue+49 red balls.

In this way
P(Red ball)= 1/21 + 1/249/99
= 0.5 + 0.24747
= 0.7475
tell me if you have any problem in understanding this ?

Got it…Thanks…

@himanshugupta8 happy Learning !!

how can you say that only 1 red ball in a bag will maximise the probability?

It will maximize the probability because, the multiplying factor with 1/2 will be 1 only as there is only one red ball in the box. In other cases, this factor might be less than 1 as well which will reduce the final probability.

Can you please elaborate… It can be the case that the probability is more if we take some red and some blue in bag 1 and some in bag 2…

If lets say we have 1 red ball and 1 blue ball in the first bag, then the first tern itself becomes 1/2 * 1/2 = 0.25. So probability reduces only overall.
