It is just a technique which almost every data scientist use to examine the skills of our model. The average score in the end provides an estimate of the model performance on new dataset. While by using the intermediate scores of all splits wee can understand the working and performance of the model of our model.
For example , if you create total splits to be 10 and you observe after 6 splits the loss is reducing very speedily and accuracy is also decreasing , then you can say it as it is overfitting . With this you can improve your model performance and Learning.
