Cell mitosis recurence relation

how did the recurence relation became
f(i)=min(i/2,i+1,i-1) from
f(i)=min(2*i,i+1,i-1)

i depend on 2i , not on i/2;
please help me.

Hey the first relation is to be used when we are starting from N and reaching 1(reverse)
Second is for situation we start from 1 and how can we reach N
Both will give same answer , the difference only being that once we start from bottom in another we start from top.
