Hi , in the given question , when we have already derived no of expected packets for getting i unique coupons , then , why do we need to sum it up for all values(for calculating for n) .Why can’t we simply put it n in place of i , would it be wrong?
Can't understand need to use linearity of expectation rule property
Hi Sharanpreet, actually E(i) denotes the number of packets to get ith coupon (AND NOT i COUPONS!!) that’s why we have to take sum!
Thanks a lot for the explanation, understood it now
