What is the use of enum{false, true} and getchar() here?

Enumeration (or enum) is a user defined data type in C. It is mainly used to assign names to integral constants, the names make a program easy to read and maintain.

GETCHAR()
The C library function int getchar(void) gets a character (an unsigned char) from stdin. This is equivalent to getc with stdin as its argument.
