The value of y can be anything

Sir,

At the base case, we are getting B = 0. So, we can derive that x = 1. That is understandable. But the fact that the value of y is 0 was not so clear. We can put any value in place of y and the equation will hold true.

Please help me clarify my doubts.

Thank you.

Hello @arpitfalcon1 please wait let me check.

You are talking about the base case which will always be the same I.e x=1 and y=0 but as you can see these are the values of x4 and y4 after the recursion calls will get back we will put the values back in the relation we have derived and then we will get values.

Okay sir, so we are defining the base cases and it will hold true for all cases of a and b right?

@arpitfalcon1 Yes right
