Regarding memory allocation

In the video at 7.58, it is told that you cannot expand or contract the memory of the box. The size of the box is 1 byte that is 8 bit. Integer 5 takes 3 bit of memory and it is told that in order to change the value of 5 to 15 memory is not sufficient. Memory needed for Integer 15 will be 4 bits. If the memory of the box is 8 bits, why cant we save Integer 15 in that box itself.

@sakha0310 watch the video carefully. At 7:03 sir has mentioned that we are assuming that this box can hold only 3 bits. hence it wont be able to store 15 because it requires 4 bits.
