Often when I take part in competitive coding contests I am unable to solve the questions related to number theory. Could you suggest any sources to study the same or any suggestion on how to improve it?

Yeah but I am not able to figure out a solution for many problems. What to do then ?

start from lower level and then increase your level and the best place to practise questions is hackerearth. And starting from base level you will gradually get confidence in solving the problem.
What about codeforces ?
codeforces is bit difficult to start with but in begining you can give div3 contests . and it is a good start . actually codeforces is the amazing platform for competative programming.
