Problem related to pointers and STL

in 12th line code if i use upperbound in case of lowerbound as i passing the comparator function in upperbound too then why it is not working?
if lowerbound or upperbound returning the address then why we have not used int *lb or auto it?

Regarding 2nd doubt ,since we are doing -coins -1 so the value becomes integer at last
